Selena is a Mexican-American Lighting, Scenic, and Projection designer currently based in Kansas City. Selena was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado and discovered her love of theatre towards the end of her junior year of high school.  In 2017, Selena received a Bachelor of Arts in Design and Technology with an emphasis in Scenic Design from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. In the spring of 2020, Selena completed her Master's Degree in Scenic Design under professor Gene Friedman at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.  During her time at UMKC, Selena began her pursuit of a triple emphasis that included Lighting and Projection Design under professors Victor En Yu Tan and the late Shane Rowse and has complete her degree in the spring of 2021.

Throughout her time in Kansas City, Selena has worked professionally with The Kansas City Repertory Theatre, The Coterie Theatre, Musical Theatre Heritage, Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company, Fish Tank Theatre, and The Kansas City Actors Theatre.  She is currently the lighting supervisor/assistant lighting designer at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for their 2021-2022 season.  In March, Selena was selected as the 2022-2023 Hemsley Lighting Intern and is extremely excited to be working with the San Francisco Opera, New York City Ballet, and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.
